A - A Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) must be served with 14 days of the offence.

Q - What is a NIP?
A - Notice of Intended Prosecution. This is a document sent to you informing you that a vehicle which is registered to yourself has been involved in a traffic offence. If you receive a NIP, it is your responsibility to send it back, with the Section 172 on the back of the NIP completed, informing GMP of who was driving at the time.
