The Future for Safety Cameras

Q - I am worried about how fast the traffic travels past my house. I would like a speed camera putting up here. How do I go about getting one in place?
A - Please contact your Local Highways Authority, who will look into whether there is sufficient criteria for traffic calming measures to be installed.

Q - What criteria is used to select the locations of the cameras?
A - We currently work with to DfT criteria of 4 Killed or Serious Injurys in the last 3 years & 85% of all traffic passing at a certain speed over the limit for a fixed camera & 2 Killed or Serious Injurys within the last 3 years & 85% above speed limit for mobile sites. ATS red light cameras need 1 Killed or Serious Injury.

Q - Why is the government so concerned about deaths on the road when the figures have fallen so sharply over the last 30 years?
A - Because there are still too many people dying. One death is one too many.
